HOW DOES THE OPAL SYSTEMS SOLUTION WORK?

One of the features of the OPAL SYSTEMS solution lies in the direct contact between the tubes, the diffusers and the floor covering.

A groove milled in the prefabricated panels attached to the floor receives metal channels and tubes that are simply “snapped in” by foot pressure.

The diffusion of heat is optimally ensured by specific diffusers and an expanded metal grid which, in combination with the tile or parquet adhesive, assembles the whole structure. The top screed is therefore no longer necessary.

1 - SUBSTRUCTURE (TOPPING, OSB, INSULATION, ETC.)

Installation of OPAL SYSTEMS floor heating must be done on a sound, stable, flat and thermally (and possibly acoustically) insulated support. There are numerous possibilities. The choice depends on space limitations, level of insulation, type of insulation, cost, installation time, etc.

Installation can be floating, glued, stapled, etc., and can be done on the floor or the walls.

2 - RECYCLED MDF TONGUE AND GROOVE

The support flooring is made from FSC and PEFC 100% recycled and certified MDF (originating from wood, guaranteeing sustainable forest management). It is milled in an appropriate local workshop.

3 - ALUMINIUM DIFFUSER

The aluminium diffusers provide the support, suspension and firm hold of the tubes with the best possible thermal contact for heat transfer to the metal grid and final flooring (glued or poured final flooring).

4 - "PEX-A" TUBE WITH ANTI-OXYGEN BARRIER

This is a tube, manufactured in Europe, made of polyethylene reticulated by peroxidation, protected against entry of oxygen by the EVAL coating and used exclusively for floor heating/cooling.

5 - EXPANDED ALUMINIUM GRID

The aluminium grid that covers the tubes and diffusers provides a uniform distribution of the heat in the floor plane, improves the attachment of the final flooring and contributes to strengthening the entire structure. The expanded metal is used in numerous applications in the architectural industry: filters, fencing, siding or façades, suspended ceilings, etc. It is a metal grating produced by shearing of a metal plate or coil in a press equipped with cutters. This process does not generate any loss.

6 - GLUING

To ensure the best possible transmission of heat to the final flooring, it is essential that it be laid on a bed of glue over the whole surface. The tiles or parquets must never be laid on spots of glue. For tiles, the high-bond mortar used must comply with the European “flexible mortar” regulation and meet the deformability requirements defined by classes S1 or S2.

7 - FINAL COVERING

The OPAL SYSTEMS floor heating solution is suitable for various types of flooring, such as nailed, glued or floating wood parquet, tile or poured self-levelling final flooring (epoxy, smooth concrete, etc.). For glued wood parquets, the recommendations of parquet specialists must be followed with respect to the installation conditions (humidity), maximum width and thickness of boards, glues, types of wood, etc. suitable for floor heating.
